Speculum

SPECULUM brings Bosch’s masterpiece firmly into the twenty-first century. This digital triptych situates the viewer before ruthless depictions of the present.

Afterlife

Afterlife, the hidden fourth panel of Speculum, explores humanity’s deep-seated fascination with the concept of life beyond death and reflects our enduring desire for immortality. Historically anchored in religious and spiritual traditions, this desire has evolved to encompass modern technology and personal beliefs. Blending ancient and contemporary symbols to highlight how humanity envisions existence beyond the grave, Afterlife offers a thought-provoking commentary on our quest to transcend mortality.

Ton Meijdam, Thom Snels and Bela Zsigmond in front of Speculum

SMACK is a Dutch artist collective founded in 2005 by Ton Meijdam, Thom Snels and Bela Zsigmond. With digital animation, 3D and AI tools they create video works and generative art about digital identity, surveillance, power and the absurdities of contemporary culture — turning the crowded allegories of the old masters into animated digital worlds.
